Life surprises us when we least expect it. Cliches aren't my favorite and certainly not a way to uplift or guide my spirits. What they do succeed to do is make me nod my head yes [or no depending on the if you're looking at me sideways (which you probably will by the end of this post)].
I've come to realize surprises are not meant to catch us off guard, but a profound reminder that the bad will not always be so bad; because the good is just as inevitable. The unfortunate circumstances we find ourselves in are as unfortunate as they are important.
Maybe you come home from a rough day at work only to face a bill in the mail from a doctor (not even a doctor- a blood testing laboratory!) for almost $300. That's $250 over your budge! How will pay the car this month?!
Unfortunate? yes. Important, double yes. In fact,Yes with a capital Y because if it weren't for those 'I'm going to be homeless in less than 90 days' surprises that seem to show up at your front door on a 48-hour cycle- the surprise wouldn't exist in the first place.
Like running into someone who you've never even had the chance to sit down with for lunch because maybe you'd talk until your mouth is dry or they would listen until their ears bleed. Soon you come to find out that they would let their ears bleed just as long as you talk your way into dehydration. So even without the 'we MUST get together for lunch!' small talk, an exhaustive conversation that entails one hour of catching up in the last two months since the last time you've crossed paths- THOSE are the best, most important, least expected surprises.
